Building a Secure Telemedicine Ecosystem for Modern Healthcare in Kenya
Smart Round Clinic is a next-generation telemedicine platform currently under development by MiniRoot, designed to transform how patients access healthcare professionals through secure digital consultations.
The platform is being architected as a complete healthcare ecosystem consisting of:
- Patient Mobile Application
- Doctor Mobile Application
- Centralized Admin Web Dashboard
Built using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP), ReactJS, and MongoDB Atlas, the solution is designed for both Android and iOS while maintaining a unified and scalable backend infrastructure.
The Challenge
Patients continue to face delays and inefficiencies in accessing quality healthcare due to the need for physical hospital visits, long waiting times, and limited immediate access to qualified doctors. This creates gaps in timely medical attention, reduces convenience, and often discourages people from seeking care when they need it most. Smart Round Clinic approached MiniRoot with the vision of creating a scalable telemedicine platform capable of:
- Connecting patients with verified doctors remotely
- Managing virtual consultations securely
- Supporting healthcare compliance requirements

Our Approach
MiniRoot approached the project as more than just a mobile app build. The focus was on creating a robust digital healthcare infrastructure capable of scaling long term.
We redesigned the architecture from the ground up by:
- Separating the ecosystem into dedicated Patient and Doctor mobile applications
- Moving administrative operations into a centralized web dashboard
- Transitioning the backend architecture to Kotlin Multiplatform for scalability and maintainability
